Reunite With Family : Temporary Parent Visa (Subclass 870)
The Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 870) allows parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to live in Australia temporarily for extended periods of up to three or five years per visa grant. Designed to reunite families quickly, it provides a legal pathway for parents to stay without the long waiting periods of permanent parent visas. Visa holders can travel in and out of Australia during their stay but cannot work. Applicants must have an approved sponsor and satisfy health and character requirements. The visa can be renewed, enabling a total stay of up to ten years.
To apply for a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa, you must have a pre-approved sponsor—your child—who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. Applications should be submitted within six months of sponsorship approval. Applicants must provide evidence of financial support and demonstrate a genuine intention to stay temporarily in Australia. You should also meet all health and character requirements, maintain adequate health insurance, have sufficient funds for your stay, and comply with any previous visa obligations.
